Marketing

My marketing will involve movie posters, a social media influence, and movie posters. All of these items of marketing will be released at the same time, which allows for a greater and more immediate spread of knowledge about my product. The film "Silence of the Lambs" was able to utilize its poster in a thematic horror and psychological thriller style in movies and other places to promote the film to the right audience. This audience in an ordinary age range of 18 through 31 will attend movie theaters that are currently prosperous. I will attempt to place movie posters around that locations similar to that and other local entertainment businesses to promote my film. Social media will be utilized to connect other modes of marketing and to promote my film to a greater audience using technology for information. Similarly to the film "Bird Box" I would promote existing films and provide teasers on social media accounts, and I would involve popular individuals in the promotion of my film. The score of my various marketing items should be consistent with a foreboding and exciting theme. Music in conjunction with a trailer would allow for greater marketing to more individuals.

Target Audience Research - Bird Box

This horror film has some psychological thriller elements where the relationships between characters are tested. It is ultimately a film that focuses on survival against the odds, which is a tone I am trying to invoke through my film in the interactions between the rival characters. This film was initially marketed on the large online streaming platform, Netflix, this alone accounts for much of its marketing. Social media along with celebrity support of this film helped market it. Netflix promoted its own film on Netflix and individuals like Kim Kardashian West - with 59 million followers on twitter, was able to promote this film. The audience for this film would be individuals aged 16-30 with an almost equal amount of appeal to males and females. This film also raised awareness using popular internet comedic sketches where people are in light support or opposition to the film, or in other words, it becomes viral. Either way, this indirect marketing had an effect to many individuals who are accustomed to using the internet for social means (which is usually people aged 16-30). Official trailers for the film also had over 17 million views on the video streaming site YouTube. The film intended to be disturbing both visually and psychologically. This film primarily focused on middle-class individuals without any focus on other statuses of individuals. Therefore it is a very focused film and it was able to attract a lot of attention through an interesting premise that many people can think about and utilize.

Target Audience Research - Baby Driver

This film is in the genre of crime, which is similar to some aspects of crime within my film product. The trailers of the film utilized exciting music The film posters use portrait shots of multiple characters with some nearing a close-up. Each individual poster focuses on a character with its own unique background with an urban appearance.  This film is intended towards a male and female audience and it uses some recognizable elements of crime and thriller to make an enthralling appeal to audiences aged 18 - 31 years old. The score of this film is modern and popular with this current generation, which would improve the appeal of this genre to some individuals younger than 18 and above. The film boasts a mix of middle-class individuals and some astute wealthy individuals. There is an overall balanced account of economic classes represented in this film. The background of the poster boasts pop-art and graffiti art. (in progress). My film project will be appeal to individuals who like rivalry and crime-related media. This film has met some successes, the most important of which would the profit from the film. It had a budget of $34 million and was expected to become of the director's most profitable films. This film made certain individuals would notice the original premise behind the storytelling of the film. It is meeting the recent expectations to provide audiences with original thematic content that has rarely been repeated in the past. The bulk of the advertising for this show went through online ads that used a consistent theme and the trailers where another driving marketing device that raised awareness and interest towards film sales.

Target Audience Research - The Silence of The Lambs

A quote from Jonathan Demme, the director behind the Silence of the Lambs film, a film that earned 5 Oscars, stated “We wanted to reach the people who couldn’t care less about people with Aids. That was our target audience.” The target audience for people behind the Silence of the Lambs are for people who don’t care about aids, and the context of the quote is directed for people who wanted to improve our understanding for people with aids
A less ambiguous target audience for the Silence of the lambs are individuals aged 18-35 years a majority of the audience as females. The content of psychological thrillers usually uses some intellectual, implicit writing and arguments, so there a high level of education is the target audience. With this level of education, it is expected that the income for the target audience is the same or higher of the U.S. average. The target audience of Silence of the Lambs is very similar to my own because it is one of the most successful films in the genre of psychological thrillers and the genre of my own film is focused on psychological thrillers. The age, income level, and education level are all very similar to my audience. The marketing of the films appeal to violence and disturbing characters, this is usually accomplished through trailers or promotional posters. Recently, much more of film marketing is accomplished through social media and entertainment platform on the internet. The marketing of a film more generally covers many various layers in the internet. The marketing of my product would be through digital means, likely through podcasts and well-known critical individuals. Marketing for my film would be through print means as well, although this will most effectively be accomplished through promotional posters.
